Target Tube Leptospira

Product description

This target tube is capable of detecting the presence of the pathogenic bacterium Leptospira interrogans. The pathogenic Leptospira causes the disease known as Leptospirosis, or Weil’s disease. Leptospirosis encompasses various clinical presentations, characterized by flu-like symptoms and potential severe complications.

Leptospira bacteria can be transmitted through infected animals. The most well-known sources of Leptospira are rats and mice. However, cattle can also act as hosts for this bacterium. Infection with Leptospira interrogans occurs through water, soil, or mud contaminated with urine from infected animals. During activities near water bodies, such as muskrat control, farming, or dredging operations, qPCR measurement of Leptospira can contribute to the safety of (swimming) water. Additionally, Leptospira serves as an indicator of water contaminated with animal feces.
